What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley works to enrich Washtenaw County through a legacy of affordable homeownership for low-income families.

Anyone who believes that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people

Why we help Habitat for Humanity

Habitat is the largest Christian-based (or any other religion) housing ministry in the world.

Eighteen homes were completed for 18 hardworking, low-income families in Washtenaw County last year and 18 families were supported in Guatemala and Haiti.

Habitat also has helped with home repair and weatherization, new appliance or furnace improvements, credit counseling and home maintenance classes.

It operates the Ann Arbor ReStore, which has diverted more than 770 tons of waste from the landfill.

What you need to know

There are opportunities to be involved throughout the year. However, most members of the Huron River Methodist congregation become involved by participating in a home build. Huron River Methodist picks at least four days starting in early summer to provide a work crew of between 4-8 people. Our crew is usually paired with a crew from another church. Build dates are usually known by the month of May.
