Day 2 - O Come, all ye Faithful
Listen to the song: "O Come, all ye Faithful"
There are lots of things we can be born…early, late, big, small, screaming, quiet, bald, hairy: first born, last born, middle. We can be born at home or in the hospital or on the way. We can be born poor, rich or middle class. But only one has ever been born the King of Angels. When a baby is born in our family we prepare. There are things to be done, preparations to make, space to ready. If someone were watching us they might think we are preparing for a King. It makes me wonder what the Angels did to prepare for the birth of their king? Did God have to hold them back a bit for fear of them overdoing it? Advent is the time to prepare…for the King of Angels. Let’s not hold anything back this year, go all out with joy and rejoicing.
When I think of the King of Angels I ponder the magnitude of numbers that might represent. I am sure it is a number we cannot fathom. But hear the good news, the King of Heavens Army commands his angels to guard and keep you.
Psalm 91:9-11
New International Reader's Version
9 Suppose you say, “The Lord is the one who keeps me safe.” Suppose you let the Most High God be like a home to you. 10 Then no harm will come to you. No terrible plague will come near your tent. 11 The Lord will command his angels to take good care of you.
Activity with Kids:
Imagine with your kids what kind of King the King of Angels would be. Imagine what the angels might have done to get ready for Jesus. Remember that if you let Jesus be a home to you, the angels are near.
Move the angels to the next note.
Lyrics to "O Come, all ye Faithful"
by John Francis Wade
1 O come, all ye faithful,
joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold him,
born the King of angels.
Refrain:
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
Christ the Lord!
2 God from true God, and
Light from Light eternal,
born of a virgin, to earth he comes!
Only-begotten Son of God the Father: [Refrain]
3 Sing, choirs of angels,
sing in exultation,
sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest: [Refrain]
4 Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing: [Refrain]
