Good News! You are Blessed! Don’t be afraid. If an Angel brings good news and exclaims you are blessed, why would that angel also say…don’t be afraid? Perhaps because as fallen humans we equate blessed with no problems and smooth sailing. But, that is not the word from the angel. You are blessed because God is with you. Blessed is not how much we have, who we have as friends, or the ease of which we move through life. Blessed is knowing God is with you.
From the moment Mary accepted the words of the angel and the word of God for her life, life got difficult. Unwed mother, traveling for a census, giving birth in a barn, running from Herod to Egypt (a foreign country), being the mother of God…watching her son die a horrific death. Blessed by God yes, easy street…no. This Advent remember that blessed is a state of being with God not a description of a Norman Rockwall painting or Hallmark movie.
Don’t be afraid, you are blessed, God is with you.
Activity for Kids:
Make a quick list of all the ways you know God is with you. If you have time, make them into a paper chain and during the days following Christmas read the loops and remember.

But Mary Was Most Troubled To Hear The Angels Word. What Was The Angel Saying? It Troubled Her To Hear, To Hear The Angels Message, It Troubled Her To Hear.
Fear Not, For God Is With You, And You Shall Bear A Child. His Name Shall Be Called Jesus, Gods Offspring From On High. And He Shall Reign Forever, Forever Reign On High.
How Shall This Be? Said Mary, I Am Not Yet A Wife. The Angel Answered Quickly, The Power Of The Most High Will Come Upon You Shortly, Your Child Will Be Gods Child.
As Mary Heard The Angel, She Wondered At His Words. Behold, I Am Your Handmaid, She Said Unto Her God. So Be It; I Am Ready According To Your Word.
