Younger Children and Early Elementary
READ: God makes a way: Moses and the Red Sea, from Exodus 14-15, p.92-99.
ACTIVITY: Retell the story using toys. Lego, playmobil, princess figures, army men, etc., or make figures out of clay/play dough, clothes pins. Use two blue colored pieces of paper, fabric, or towels to make the Sea. Roll back the sea and let the people walk through. Make a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud – fire to lead and cloud to shield. (You might want to use cotton balls and red construction paper.)
Talk about how God made a way for them to pass through the waters and God still makes a way for us. Where do we need God to make a way in our family?
ORNAMENT IDEAS: Use the pillar of cloud and fire as the ornaments.
This ornament reminds us of God’s power to lead and protect us.
READ: p. 139-144, “20,000 Egyptians Under the Sea”
ACTIVITY: God made a way for the Israelites to pass through the water to freedom when they felt trapped with no way out. Talk about times when your family did not know what to do next and God made a way for you. Write some of these stories in your journal.
ORNAMENT: Make a pillar of cloud and fire. This ornament reminds us of God’s power to lead and protect us.
Scripture Reading: Exodus 14-15
