What is Operation Christmas Child?

Operation Christmas Child’s mission is to provide local partners (communities) around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

These simple gifts are shipped outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S..

Why we help operation Christmas Child

To demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world.

To partner with local churches around the world to share the news of Jesus Christ.

To bring joy to children in impoverished countries at Christmas time.

To model generosity and service to Huron River Methodist children, who can easily participate in packing shoeboxes.

What you need to know

OCC National Collection Week is the third week of November, ending the Monday before Thanksgiving.

During the three weeks prior to National Collection Week, local volunteers are needed to prepare for the busy week ahead and spread the word about shoeboxes in the church and community. Volunteers can collect items to fill shoeboxes throughout the year, or just as National Collection Week approaches.
